Social Distancing
The Artist's Perspective:
This artwork is named "Social Distancing" and was created during the COVID pandemic of 2019 and it is intending to portray humor. Is it acceptable to develop artwork that conveys humor about a historical event that has negative connotations?
The artist developed this artwork because of the requirement to wear a mask to enter a well-known local department store in the United States but may be relatable in other countries as well. All artworks by this artist are copyrighted in the "Library of Congress".
This artwork is a parody of the Old West in the United States because of the opposite rules being enforced. The red stagecoach was typically utilized for transporting gold and silver coins and other forms of money from one bank to another. The man standing near the stagecoach is wearing a mask and is saying: "This isn't a holdup. I am practicing Social Distancing."
The reason why this is humorous is because the pedestrian was being accused of robbing the stagecoach as opposed to wearing a mask to practice Social Distancing. This is similar to walking into an ordinary department store and being told to "put on a mask".
