Like a Wax Candle
The Artist's Perspective:
With this artwork, there was an attempt to capture the narrative about Christopher Columbus when he was sailing over the "deepest part of the Bermuda Triangle". In his Ship's Log, as relayed by one of his crew in subsequent voyages, there was either a meteor that crashed into the ocean, or something rose out of the ocean, waking everybody up.
There were reports of lights under the ocean water. Then there were some lights circling in the air like stars at night. There was a light in the distance that rose and fell "like a wax candle". The direction of travel of the ships may even have changed directions toward that light source. The navigation was shifted as well because of the strange compass activities. Lots of things to discuss about this artwork when compared to the historical account.
There are translations of the Ship's Log Book online.
